Spreading Christmas Cheer

Christmas caroling on Island

Island students and staff entertain Islander Helen Pike.

Instead of the regular holiday program presented by BI Community School, staff and students decided to do something different this – bring the gift of holiday music and companionship to Islanders, many of them senior citizens or homebound.

The 40 children were well rehearsed on their songs and enthusiastic as they sang a number of Christmas selections, even  adding “sign language” to one carol. A number of school staff and parents joined the fun, adding their voices and good will to the day.
Those they visited on the afternoon of Dec. 18 were presented with a plate of holiday treats. The children had also made special edible birdseed ornaments they hung in the trees near the homes they visited.
“This is just wonderful,” said Helen Pike, during their visit. “You don’t know how much this means to me.”
After they concluded their concert with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” they piled into a caravan of vehicles, heading out to their next stop to spread holiday cheer throughout the Island.
