The Emerald Isle is back in service this morning, just in time for the busy Music Festival weekend on Beaver Island!
The ferry’s repaired engine was returned to the Island by barge and the engines aligned. Yesterday, July 17 she passed the Coast Guard inspection and her sea trials. The first run is scheduled for this morning, departing from Charlevoix at 8:30 a.m.
During the time the Emerald Isle was out of service, Fogg’s barge, the Beaver Islander and a cruise ship out of Charlevoix were utilized to transport passengers, vehicles and freight to the Island. Boat Company staff worked 24/7 to accommodate their customers, the BI Transportation Authority kept the media informed on the repair process, and many island community members stepped in to help transport vacationers from the ferry dock to their Island accommodations if their vehicles were arriving on a later ferry or barge. Thanks to all who worked to help keep everything running smoothly during the busy summer season.
