The morning of the 4th of July dawned with a cold fog bank heading into Beaver Island. But by parade time, the sun was out and it was picture perfect weather for the big day.
The floats and walking groups took to the parade route with the theme of “America’s unsung heroes.” Youngsters were lined up, ready with treat bags to hold all the fun items tossed from the floats. Beaver Island EMS was handing out much appreciated water bottles, Daddy Frank’s gave away ice pops, others tossed candy, beads and even t-shirts.
The Evans family float was back again this year – a double decker, red-white-blue, musical event of its own!
The Friends of Beaver Island Animals walking group was applauded in a big way during the parade, and afterwards all headed over to their agility demonstration. The free will donations collected will assist with emergency medical grants and loans for Beaver Island pets.
The night was perfect for viewing the fireworks over the harbor – thanks to the townships for funding and the hard work of the Beaver Island Fire Department in setting up and setting off the display.
All in all it was a wonderful 4th of July! To see all the great photos – see our August issue of NorthernIslander.
