Island remembers Sept. 11th

Beaver Island honors emergency workers, remembers 9-11.

Emergency workers were thanked for their service.

On this bright September morning Islanders gathered at the Fire Hall to remember the tragedy and sacrifices that occurred on September 11th, 2001.

School children gathered around the piece of the World Trade Center on display there, many of the youngsters too young to have clear memories of that day.

Members of the Beaver Island Fire Department,  BIEMS and the Sheriff’s Department were honored. All were presented with pies (donated by the Charlevoix Elks Lodge #2856) in recognition of their dedication to serving the Island and keeping us all safe. County Commissioner Rich Gillespie thanked them all for their service and commitment to the community.

Fire Chief Tim McDonough asked for a moment of silence in memory of all those who lost their lives that day. Deb Robert also thanked our emergency workers on behalf of the grateful community.
