Island contractor Kevin McDonough and crew are now hard at work on the new terminal building at the Beaver Island Airport. The official groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, August 13.
“This project involves funding from several sources, including a required local match and a low interest loan, said Beaver Island Airport Commssion chair Elaine West. “The site work is being funding by the FAA, which uses monies dedicated to airport improvements from airport user fees. The Michigan Department of Transportation’s Aeronautics Division awarded the Island a most generous grant for the terminal building and have been very encouraging in all efforts to bring you an airport facility that will be a source of price for the entire community. And resident Jon Fogg is working to raise local donations for the fieldstone fireplace and furnishings.”
The project is expected to take about six months to completion, with a grand opening celebration to be held in the spring of 2014.
