Youngsters facing serious medical illnesses are receiving a helping hand to cope with various operations and procedures. The “Beads of Courage” day on Beaver Island held on Sept. 13 – part of a nationwide event – was held at the East Side Drive studio of artist Nancy Peterson.
The glass beads Peterson and other artists created during the event will be given to children undergoing life-changing medical experiences to string into necklaces.
“It helps them record, tell and own their story of courage,” said Peterson.
Those who visited Peterson during the “Beads of Courage” day, could sponsor a bead for a child in treatment for just $5. One could also make a donation to the non-profit organization: www.beadsofcourage.org.
The entire story of the “Beads of Courage” day on the Island will appear in the Oct. issue of NorthernIslander.
